Camouflage and other Animal Fun

Can you spot some moths on the tree bark above?

In science, we've been studying how animal parents help their young, as well as special abilities animals have-- their body parts and functions-- and how those uniquely help animals survive. We did an activity focused on the fascinating topic of camouflage. Check out these web sites we had fun looking at. Try to find the well-camouflaged animal amid its surroundings.

After learning about this, students created their own moth and attached it to a spot in our classroom where it would blend in with its surroundings. Sometimes it took a few attempts to get the colors right.

See if you can spot some of our camouflaged moths in these photos below. :)

And just for fun, here are some photos of us trying to look big and scary like a praying mantis, or curl up inside a shell like a snail, or hide in a hole like a gopher-- which are the ways these animals protect themselves when they sense danger, like a predator, near.
